Education and Studies

Dr. Cathérine d’Avoine completed her law degree at the universities of Trier, Sheffield (UK), and Bonn. Even during this time, she focused her studies on commercial and insolvency law, a field that would significantly shape her future academic and professional career.

Doctorate and Practical Experience

Following her first state examination, she pursued her doctorate at the University of Cologne. In her dissertation, titled “Creditor Participation in Group Insolvency Proceedings” she delved deeply into complex issues of insolvency law. While pursuing her studies, doctoral research, and legal clerkship, she worked as a research assistant at CMS Hasche Sigle in Düsseldorf, where she gained valuable practical experience early on.

Legal clerkship and start of career

Dr. Cathérine d’Avoine completed her legal clerkship at the Essen Regional Court. After successfully passing the Second State Examination, she joined the law firm CMS Hasche Sigle in Düsseldorf as an attorney. There, she worked in the Restructuring and Insolvency practice group and advised on complex commercial law matters.

Current Position

Dr. Cathérine d’Avoine has been working as an attorney at ATN Rechtsanwälte since November 2025. She provides advice in the areas of insolvency administration and restructuring. In this capacity, she handles insolvency proceedings in which the firm’s partners have been appointed as insolvency administrators and assists with the administration of such proceedings as well as with restructuring measures.

Dr. Cathérine d’Avoine has excellent language skills in german, english and spanish.
